Joined a new job after the first day of the month? Leaving before month-end or taking unpaid leave?

The Prorated Salary Calculator Singapore estimates your pay for an incomplete month. It uses your monthly gross rate of pay and the relevant working days entered.

The result is an estimate. Compare it with your employment contract and payslip before reporting a payroll error.

When Is Salary Prorated?

Salary may need to be prorated when an employee:

  • starts work after the first day of the month;
  • leaves the job before the last day of the month;
  • takes one or more days of unpaid leave; or
  • performs reservist training during the month.

A full monthly salary is not simply divided by 30 in every case. The number of working days in that particular month matters.

For a general earnings estimate, use the Salary Calculator Singapore separately.

Singapore Prorated Salary Formula

MOM provides this formula for an incomplete month:

Monthly gross rate of pay ÷ total working days in the month × days actually worked

Use the monthly gross rate of pay, not take-home salary after CPF or other deductions.

The total working days depend on the employee’s work schedule. Rest days and non-working days should not be entered as ordinary working days.

Simple Calculation Example

Assume a hypothetical month has 22 working days.

An employee has:

  • Monthly gross rate of pay: $3,000
  • Total working days in the month: 22
  • Days counted as worked: 15

The estimated salary is:

$3,000 ÷ 22 × 15 = $2,045.45

The estimated prorated salary is $2,045.45 before applicable deductions.

This example does not include overtime, bonuses or other separate payments.

How to Use the Calculator

Enter the monthly gross rate requested by the calculator.

Add the total working days in the relevant month and the days actually worked. Select Calculate to view the estimate.

Check the entered work schedule carefully. Use Reset if you want to calculate another period.

If overtime is payable for the same month, estimate it separately with the Overtime Calculator Singapore.

Which Days May Be Counted?

Days actually worked can include certain paid days when the employee is entitled to payment, such as paid annual leave and public holidays.

Rest days and non-working days are not normally included in the total working-day count.

The correct figures depend on the employee’s schedule and payroll records. Ask the employer for the working-day breakdown when it is unclear.

You can review paid leave separately using the Annual Leave Calculator Singapore.

Prorated Salary and Unpaid Leave

Unpaid leave can reduce the salary payable for the month.

Do not enter annual leave or another form of paid leave as unpaid leave. These leave types can have different payroll treatment.

Because lower wages can affect CPF contributions, the CPF Calculator Singapore may help with a separate estimate. Confirm the actual contribution using the payslip and CPF records.

What Happens in the Final Month of Employment?

An employee who leaves before the end of a month may receive a prorated final salary.

The final payment may also include unused leave, overtime, deductions or salary in lieu of notice. These items should be checked separately.

If you are resigning, the Notice Period Calculator Singapore can help estimate your final working date before you calculate the incomplete month.

Common Calculation Mistakes

A wrong result often comes from:

  • using basic salary instead of the required gross rate;
  • dividing salary by 30 automatically;
  • including rest days as working days;
  • entering calendar days instead of scheduled working days;
  • treating paid leave as unpaid leave; or
  • adding overtime to the gross rate used in the formula.

Check each input instead of relying only on the final amount.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What is prorated salary?

A: It is the portion of monthly salary payable when an employee does not work the complete month.

Q2: Should I divide my monthly salary by 30?

A: Not automatically. MOM’s incomplete-month formula uses the total working days in that particular month.

Q3: Should I use basic salary or gross salary?

A: MOM’s incomplete-month formula uses the monthly gross rate of pay. This is not the same as take-home salary.

Q4: Can the calculator be used for unpaid leave?

A: Yes, if the correct monthly gross rate, working days and unpaid-leave information are entered.

Q5: Is annual leave treated as unpaid leave?

A: No. Approved paid annual leave should not be entered as unpaid leave.

Q6: Is overtime included in prorated salary?

A: Overtime is generally calculated separately. Do not automatically include it in the monthly gross rate used for this formula.

Q7: Why does my employer’s result differ?

A: The employer may have used a different work schedule, gross-rate figure, paid-leave record or number of completed working days. Ask for a calculation breakdown.

Q8: Does this calculator guarantee my final salary?

A: No. It provides an estimate based on the entered information. Your contract and payroll records determine the actual payment.
