For adults aged 18 and above. The result uses Singapore/Asian adult BMI risk ranges.
Disclaimer: BMI is a screening estimate, not a diagnosis; adult BMI ranges may not be appropriate for children, pregnancy, very muscular people or some medical/body-composition situations.
What Is a BMI Calculator KG?
A BMI Calculator KG calculates Body Mass Index using weight in kilograms and height in centimetres.
It displays three results:
- your BMI in kg/m²;
- your Singapore/Asian adult BMI risk range; and
- a healthy BMI weight range for your height.
This calculator is intended for adults aged 18 and above. Its result is a screening estimate, not a diagnosis or personalised weight recommendation.
For a broader explanation of adult BMI, use the BMI Calculator Singapore. That page is the main BMI reference, while this calculator is designed specifically for users entering kilograms and centimetres.
How to Use the BMI Calculator KG
1. Enter Your Weight in Kilograms
Enter your current weight in the Weight (kg) field.
For example, enter 65 if you weigh 65 kilograms. Do not enter pounds because this calculator does not automatically convert pounds into kilograms.
Use a recent measurement where practical. Body weight may change slightly during the day because of food, clothing, hydration and other normal factors.
2. Enter Your Height in Centimetres
Enter your height in the Height (cm) field.
For example, enter 170 if your height is 170 centimetres. Do not enter 1.70, because the field expects centimetres rather than metres.
Measure height without shoes and stand upright. A height error can noticeably change the result because height is squared in the BMI formula.
3. Calculate Your BMI
Select Calculate BMI after entering both values.
The calculator will show:
- BMI rounded to one decimal place;
- the applicable adult screening range; and
- an estimated healthy weight range based on your height.
Select Reset to clear the values and perform another calculation.
BMI Formula Using Kilograms
The calculator first converts height from centimetres into metres.
Height in metres = Height in centimetres ÷ 100
It then applies the standard adult BMI formula:
BMI = Weight in kilograms ÷ Height in metres²
BMI is expressed in kilograms per square metre, written as kg/m².
The mathematical formula is the same for adult men and women. The BMI Calculator Male Singapore provides male-focused guidance, but it does not require a separate male BMI equation.
Likewise, the BMI Calculator for Females Singapore uses the standard adult formula while explaining limitations that may be especially relevant to women, including pregnancy.
BMI Calculation Example
Suppose an adult enters:
- weight: 65 kg;
- height: 170 cm.
Convert the height into metres:
170 ÷ 100 = 1.70 m
Square the height:
1.70 × 1.70 = 2.89 m²
Apply the BMI formula:
65 ÷ 2.89 = 22.49
The calculator would display a BMI of approximately 22.5 kg/m².
Under the Singapore/Asian adult ranges used by the calculator, 22.5 falls within the healthy or low-risk range.
Singapore and Asian Adult BMI Ranges
The calculator uses these adult screening ranges:
- Below 18.5: Underweight
- 18.5 to 22.9: Healthy or low health risk
- 23.0 to 27.4: Moderate health risk
- 27.5 and above: High health risk
These Singapore adult ranges are explained by HealthHub.
A BMI category does not prove that you have a medical condition. It indicates a general screening range associated with possible health or nutritional risks.
A healthcare professional may also consider waist circumference, medical history, blood pressure, blood tests, physical activity and changes in weight over time.
How Is the Healthy Weight Range Calculated?
The calculator estimates the weight values that would produce a BMI between 18.5 and 22.9 for the entered height.
The formulas are:
Lower weight = 18.5 × Height in metres²
Upper weight = 22.9 × Height in metres²
Using the earlier height of 1.70 metres:
Lower value = 18.5 × 2.89 = 53.5 kg
Upper value = 22.9 × 2.89 = 66.2 kg
The displayed healthy BMI weight range would therefore be approximately 53.5 kg to 66.2 kg.
This range is a mathematical screening reference. It is not a compulsory target and does not account for muscle mass, pregnancy, body composition or individual medical needs.
Does Age Change Adult BMI?
This calculator does not have an age field. It uses the same adult formula and screening ranges for users aged 18 and above.
Age can still affect how a result should be understood. Older adults may experience changes in muscle mass and body composition that BMI cannot show.
The BMI Calculator With Age explains the role of age in adult BMI screening. However, entering age does not create a different standard BMI formula.
When Is Adult BMI Less Suitable?
Adult BMI ranges may be less suitable for:
- children and teenagers;
- pregnant women;
- very muscular people;
- competitive athletes;
- people with significant fluid retention; or
- people with conditions affecting weight or body composition.
A child’s BMI must be assessed using age- and sex-specific references. The BMI Calculator for Kids performs the supported school-age BMI screening calculation instead of applying adult ranges.
During pregnancy, normal weight gain changes the meaning of BMI. A pregnant user should obtain pregnancy-specific guidance from a qualified healthcare professional.
BMI may also overstate health risk for a muscular person because it cannot separate muscle from fat. It may miss other risks in someone whose BMI falls within the healthy range but who has a high waist circumference or an underlying condition.
Common BMI Calculation Mistakes
Do not enter height in metres when the calculator requests centimetres. Enter 170, not 1.70, for a height of 170 cm.
Do not enter weight in pounds. Convert the value into kilograms before using this page.
Avoid treating a single BMI result as a complete health assessment. BMI does not measure body-fat percentage, fat distribution, fitness or nutrition.
Do not use adult categories for children. Their BMI must be interpreted using appropriate growth references.
Other Singapore-focused health and planning tools are available on the Calculator Singapores homepage, but every calculator has its own purpose and limitations.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: What does the BMI Calculator KG calculate?
A: It calculates adult BMI using weight in kilograms and height in centimetres. It also displays the applicable Singapore/Asian screening range and a height-based healthy weight range.
Q2: What formula does the calculator use?
A: It divides weight in kilograms by height in metres squared. Height entered in centimetres is converted into metres first.
Q3: What is a healthy adult BMI in Singapore?
A: A BMI from 18.5 to 22.9 is generally considered the healthy or low-risk adult range. BMI alone cannot confirm a person’s health.
Q4: Can I enter my height in metres?
A: No. Enter height in centimetres. For example, enter 170 rather than 1.70.
Q5: Does the calculator work for children?
A: No. It uses adult screening ranges and is intended for people aged 18 and above.
Q6: Is the healthy weight range an exact target?
A: No. It is a mathematical estimate based on BMI values from 18.5 to 22.9 and the entered height.
Q7: Is the BMI result a medical diagnosis?
A: No. BMI is a screening measurement and does not replace advice or assessment from a qualified healthcare professional.
